Did you know....?
- In some US states, mothers sign away all parental rights before the child is even born, while in other states mothers sign irrevocable surrenders of parental rights upon leaving the delivery room.
- In most states, if a mother receives any counseling, the adoption industry usually provides it and the industry is paid only if the mothers surrenders her child.
- In many states, the same attorney represents the prospective adopters and the mother. In other cases, the mother's attorney, if she has one, is paid for by the prospective adopters.
- Because the adoption industry needs more regulation. (Ad by the adoption industry to entice mothers into adoption.)
With support from members, Origins-USA works for the following legislative changes:
- Extend the time to decide.
- Assure that mothers and mothers-to-be receive accurate information to make informed decisions about nurturing their child.
- Assure that mothers have independent legal counsel.
- Grant mothers a cause of action, within a reasonable amont of time, to nullify the adoption, have their child returned, and recover legal costs if their rights are violated.
